STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Mathematics) education is one of the keywords that have been mentioned frequently in recent years, especially since the world is heading towards the 4th Industrial Revolution. To adapt to this transformation, STEM education has played an important role in “strengthening the workforce’s capacity and accessibility to the revolution.”
STEM integrates science, technology, engineering, and math knowledge in a specific subject. STEM provides learners with an integrated body of knowledge to solve real-world problems. STEM education in general, and STEM education at EIU in particular, plays an important role in building and developing human resources in engineering and technology. The STEM educational program at EIU STEM Lab focuses on implementing courses with two main topics: “Thinking Development” and “Career Orientation” for students at all levels from six (6) to 18 years old. STEM targets:
- Clarifying the relationship between math, science, technology, and engineering in life
- Stimulating a passion for science and technology, and promoting innovative research in the community, thereby helping students choose career orientations in the future
- Developing logical and creative thinking, improving students’ cognitive quality and capacity
- Guiding the development of some 21st-century skills: criticism, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and presentation
